Firemen have now rescued all the mountaineers from the Barranco del Infierno in Vall d’Ebo, Alicante. The rescue mission began on Friday after one of the party, a young climber from Ondara, died while canyoning in the area.
The authorities were alerted at 17:30 on Friday that one of a group of climbers had suffered a fatal accident and a search was launched. However, the authorities initially thought the group consisted of thirteen climbers but later found out that the number was actually twenty-three.
The final group were rescued at 07:00 this morning. The Barranco del Infierno is located between the towns of Vall d’Ebo and La Nucia, in the district of Marina Alta.
