Today is the second day of an indefinite strike by resident medical staff (MIR) at hospitals in Andalucia, these ebing mostly doctors, some 4,500, but also including some nurses, pharmacists and psychologists.
The strike is a protest against working conditions imposed on the Andalucian Health Service (SAS), with the workers saying that the cuts are affecting their training and that they have to cover for doctors whose hours have been reduced.
There is also a complaint that some salaries have been cut, up to 36% in some cases.
The Junta de Andalucia claims that the cuts are a result of a central government decrees with which they have to comply.
According to the Ministry of Health, participation in the strikes is around 50%. According to the unions it is around 90%. No change there then.
