The workers’ council has agrred adeal with the management of Urbaser, the cleaning concessionaire in Jerez de la Frontera which, after approval by the employees later today, will see an end to the strike and the rubbish cleared from the streets of the city tonight.
The agreement sees the employees contributing €3 million of the proposed €4.3 million budget cuts through a new collective agreement and a reduction in wages of 10% during the next three years, and Urbaser will absorb the remaining €3 million. The proposed layoffs of 125 staff will not happen.
Representatives of the workers’ council stated that they were ‘happy’ with the outcome, which they would be as they got what they wanted, and the Council is pleased that the agreement will not cost them anything, not that it makes much difference as they don’t seem to pay their debts anyway. And the residents of Jerez will be delighted that the smell of rotting garbage will disappear from the streets.
