A joint operation by National Police and Customs officers has resulted in the dismantling of a marijuana plantation installed in the basement of a villa in Alhaurín de la Torre, Málaga province. Two people have so far been arrested, an Italian man and a Spanish woman.
The basement of the villa was fully kitted out to accommodate around 800 plants as well as areas for drying and other processes. The greenhouse was equipped with all the necessary technology to control lighting, temperature, humidity etc and was designed for continuous production of four crops per year.
The necessary high consumption of electricity for such an operation was overcome by tampering with the electricity meters in the house. One of the detainees, an Italian male, was charged with crimes against the public health and fraud against the electricity company. The second detainee, a Spanish woman, is charged with drug trafficking.
