The Association of Paradors has announced the start of ERE (Employment Regulation) negotiations which are expected to result in 644 redundancies nationwide, the amendment of 856 contracts and the closure or conversion of several facilities.
In Andalucia, the Parador in Ayamonte, Huelva, will close and the paradors in Cazorla (Jaén) and Arcos de la Frontera (Cádiz) will undergo conversion. There will be 118 layoffs and 50 contract amendments in the region.
The ERE negotiations are underway but the unions see little chance of agreement and have already called for strikes during this week’s ‘puente’ and further protests and strikes are in the offing.
Under the conversion, the paradors in Cazorla and Arcos de la Frontera will only open for part of the year and the contracts of employees will be amended from permanent to non-continuous permanent.
The redundancies are being spread over the whole network of these emblematic hotels. The unions say that mis-management has caused the Paradors to become unprofitable and accuses the Government of wanting to privatise unprofitable establishments. The unions believe the hotels should remain public.
