Mijas Council is trying to streamline procedures relating to minor building works and from now on, such works whose value is less than €1,000 will not require a municipal licence, although there are exceptions to the new rule.
So, anyone wishing to carry out minor works valued at less than €1,000 and do not necessitate the demolition of structures, do not affect the internal layout or external appearance of the building and do not modify its structure, can do so by means of a simple document which can be either handed in to the Town Hall or submitted online.
Emergency repairs, however, will still require a municipal licence.
The Local Police, municipal technicians and inspectors will monitor such minor works to ensure that the actual works correspond to the details presented in the document.
The new rule does not, for the time being, apply to the centre of Mijas Pueblo or the coastal hinterland as permits in such cases are the responsibility of the Junta de Andalucia.
On the face of it, the new system appears to be more complex.
