During the period 2008 to 2011, one in five bars and restaurants in Andalucia have closed, according to the Department of Economic Research and Analysis of La Caixa. Andalucia remains the region in Spain with the most bars, 47,003.
One of the main problems is the reduced spending power of customers. Whereas bills of €50 used to be the norm, this has apparently fallen to around €13.
Málaga is the province in Andalucia with the most bars, over 11,000, followed by Sevilla, Cádiz and Granada.
