The new law on court fees comes into effect today, Monday, following the publication in the Official Gazette (BOE) on Saturday of the Ministerial Order regulating the assessment and collection of such fees.
Fees are generally increasing between €50 and €750 and those appealing to the Supreme Court in both Civil and Administrative cases could face a bill of up to €1,200.
There are exemptions to the new law, including those with insufficient funds to litigate and who are benefiting from legal aid, the Public Prosecutor, Parliament and the regional legislative assemblies.
