The Councillor for Cleaning Services in Vélez-Málaga, Antonio Martín (PP), has appealed to the public not to urinate in the streets, with a reminder that offenders face a fine of between €90 and €300.
During 2012, of 950 penalties imposed under the municipal cleaning ordinance, 384 were for urinating in public. There were 230 sanctions for depositing waste in the rubbish containers outside the prescribed hours, 176 for throwing rubbish on the streets, 96 for failing to collect up animal excrement from the streets and 32 for placing advertising material on cars without suitable authorisation.
Since September, the imposition of sanctions has been, let’s say, ‘less vigorous’ than in the first part of the year, meaning that the majority of fines relate to offences prior to September.
