The Council has approved a motion supporting the taxi drivers of Nerja in their efforts to continue picking up and dropping off passengers at Málaga airport, something the Málaga taxi drivers oppose.
The motion, opposing the ‘totally unfair’ claims of the Málaga taxi collective, is being sent to the Minister of Development, Elena Cortés, and the Málaga Territorial delegate, Manuel García Peláez.
In addition, the motion also calls on the Málaga sub-delegate Jorge Hernández Mollar to take the necessary steps to ensure the safety of Nerja taxi drivers travelling to and from Málaga airport with their passengers.
Mr and Mrs Grinsill says:
This cannot be allowed to happen. We have been coming to Nerja since 1995 and think the service provided by the Taxis Drivers from Nerja is exceptional, they are always there to pick you up and drop you off and are very helpful and friendly, leave Nerja Taxis Drivers alone Malaga!
Peter Wilkinson says:
As long as the drivers picking up at the airport are fully licensed by their own district the Malaga drivers do not have any legal right to oppose them picking up their pre-booked clients..
I am not sure what the situation is here in Spain but it is an offence in the UK to pick up anyone who is not prebooked and one can be prosecuted and lose your licence for this. The Travel Group I worked for were very strict about this as an illegal pickup would invalidate your insurance and apart from the driver the company could be prosecuted..
