The general financial crisis, cuts in staff, reduced spending on fiestas and ferias, cuts to protocols, transport, sports and legal costs to name but a few…none of these have stopped Vélez-Málaga from producing a 2013 budget of record proportions.
Up:
- Increased spending on Social Services – up from €540,012 in 2012 to €665,513 (+23.24%).
- An appropriation of €300,000 for an Employment Plan, although this could end up at around €500,000.
- Maintenence of Parks and Gardens – up from €1,225,877.58 in 2012 to around €2 million (+63.15%).
- Maintenance of public roads up from €100,000 to €170,000 (+70%).
- Maintenance of municipal buildings up from €119,500 to €250,000 (+109%).
Down:
- Decreased spending (the austerity part of the budget) on ferias and fiestas – down from €415,000 in 2012 to just €311,250 (-25%).
- A 54.13% reduction in funds for transport and sports services.
- A 51.72% reduction in legal fees.
- An 11.13% reduction in protocol costs.
- A 34.85% reduction in photocopier rental costs.
- A 13.53% reduction in the cost of artistic lighting.
- A 2.24% reduction in staff costs.
The Council is expecting a significant increase in revenues from IBI (Rates) to €37,050,000 and an increase in State funding to €16,035,260.
The total budget, a record, is €90,215,282.
