Iberia and the pilots union SEPLA are due to sit down today to begin negotiations relating to the proposed restructuring of the company which involves the loss of 4,500 jobs and pay cuts of between 25% and 35%.
The other unions at Iberia, representing 93% of the workforce, have already begun the negotiation process. SEPLA, who are in dispute with Iberia over the setting up of the low cost airline Iberia Express have, until now, not been involved in the negotiations.
The airline has asked the union to submit proposals for wage reductions and increased productivity. In the nine months to September 2012, Iberia had an accumulated operating losses of €262 million.
