Real Madrid made a bright start, Benzema scoring after two minutes, but were reduced to ten men after just six minutes of their match against Real Sociedad after goalkeeper Adán was dismissed for bringing down Carlos Vela inside the area.
Xabi Prieto equalised from the penalty spot. Khedira then restored Real’s lead but it only lasted five minutes, Prieto grabbing his second of the night.
In the second half, Ronaldo bagged a brace before Prieto completed his hat-trick. Shortly afterwards, Estrada also received his marching orders for a second bookable offence and both teams ended the match with ten men.
Coach Tito Vilanova was back on the bench after undergoing cancer surgery two weeks ago to watch his side crush Espanyol 4-0. All the goals came in the first half, Xavi getting things going after ten minutes followed by a pair from Pedro and one from the penalty spot by Lionel Messi.
