The Ministry of Education of the Junta de Andalucia, through the Andalucian Public Entity for Infrastructure and Educational Services (ESI), has started proceedings to cancel the contract with the company Brassica Group for the supply of school meals in the region.
The Ministry of Education cites repeated breaches in the provision of a school meal service as the reason for the action and was brought to a head by the decision by Brassica Group employees to begin an indefinite strike for the non-payment of wages, which has affected deliveries to 122 schools in Cádiz, Granada, Sevilla and Huelva provinces.
According to the Brassica Group, an eight month delay in receiving funds from the Junta de Andalucia has caused the problems.
The Junta de Andalucia, on the other hand, maintains that it has no debt with the Brassica Group as all bills are the responsibility of the pubic entity ESI.
Efforts are already under way to find a new supplier to replace Brassica Group.
