The small municipality of Sedella, population around 700 people, today becomes the first in Andalucia to become ‘cardio-protected’.
Two semi-automatic defibrillators have been installed in avenida del Castillo and calle Daire and eight people have received training and this means that in the case of cardiac arrest or cardio-respiratory problems, all residents can receive treatment, including CPR, within four minutes.
This greatly increases the chances of a full recovery in such situations. This early intervention can be performed by non-medical staff who have the proper training.
In February, legislation comes into force requiring defibrillators to be available at all sporting venues and where there are gatherings of large numbers of people.
