Local Police officers in Vélez-Málaga have been having to use a strange assortment of municipal vehicles lately due to the poor state of repair of half of their own vehicles.
The Mayor, Francisco Delgado (PP), acknowledged that three of the six police vehicles were broken but said action was being taken to remedy the situation.
The Mayor was critical of the police unions for not protesting the situation under the former administration when lease contracts were not paid and repairs were not made to vehicles.
Delgado added that when he took over, the Council owed €500,000 to the leasing company and the vehicles were in a poor state. He also said that there were motorcycles the police could use and said it didn’t matter if the officers had to walk a little.
