Almost half of the buildings in the municipality of Competa, 1,577 out of 3,612, are apparently on rural or non-developable land, making them illegal.
Competa is one of the first municipalities in the Axarquia district to begin the process of legalising such housing as permitted under Decree 2/2012. An Advance Plan has been approved by the Council, a document which must be referred to in the PGOU (General Plan).
The PGOU for Competa is currently under development.
