Palma de Mallorca Council has decided to change the name of one of its provincial boulevards from ‘Los Duques de Palma’ to its former name of ‘La Rambla’, the decision being prompted by public indignation at the less than exemplary behaviour and lack of respect for the title and the city being shown by the current Duke of Palma, Iñaki Urdangarin.
The decision was made several days ago and, according to the official spokesman, and is not related to the Duke has now been ordered to pay €8.1 million bail in the Noos corruption case. The spokesman stressed that the Council firmly believes in the presumption of innocence for all citizens and the decision was based solely on public opinion.
The Council has communicated the decision to the Royal family. Boulevard La Rambla became Boulevard Duques de Palma on March 23rd 1998.
References to the Duke of Palma, Iñaki Urdangarin, have already been removed from the official Royal Family website due to ‘less than exemplary behaviour’.
