As the strike by employees of the municipal cleaning company Lipasam enters its seventh day, with 4,200 tons of rubbish piling up in the streets and, as invariably happens during such disputes, containers being burned.
During Saturday night, containers in around 25 streets, mostly in the southern part of the city, were set on fire. Containers were burned in calle Ortiz Ruiz Muñoz, calle Castilleja de la Cuesta, calle Pegaso, avenida del Romanticismo, calle Flor de Salvia and calle Juan de la Cosa among others.
The unions have distanced themselves from the incidents saying that it is more in their interest to see the rubbish piled up in the streets than burned.
