A 36 year old member of the ‘Stop Evictions’ group committed suicide on Friday in Córdoba after receiving a letter from the Inland Revenue and Heritage saying that he had an outstanding debt of €22,000 relating to the sale of his house a year earlier.
At around 10:00 on Friday, the man jumped from the fourth floor of an apartment block in calle Cartago, Córdoba. He leaves behind a wife and an eight year old daughter.
A year earlier, the man had sold his house in Villafranca to a financial institution, believing that the transaction was a ‘payment in kind’ and that his debt was cleared.
One year on and receiving a letter claiming he was still in debt, the man apparently felt deceived and decided to end his life.
