A change of venue for the second Opportunities Fair to be held on February 28th, March 1st, 2nd and 3rd as a result of the administrative difficulties experienced last year. This years event will be held in the Sala Mercado in Plaza de la Ermita, Nerja, and will be open from 11:00 to 22:00 each day.
The Opportunities Fair is basically a market where local traders sell their wares at a discounted price and such events have become popular during the financial crisis.
However, they are subject to strict rules, such as only one per municipality per year, and there are rules governing the area covered by such fairs. It was on this last point that the AEN (Nerja Assocciation of Employeers) fell foul of the regional authorities last year and were initially fined €3,000 for exceeding the permitted maximum area.
Although the individual stalls were small and the marquee area was under the maximum limit, the event was held in Plaza de España and this was apparently used as the criteria for determining the overall area of the fair. Hence the change of venue to the Sala Mercado.
Fortunately, after much administrative wrangling, common sense prevailed and the €3,000 fine was revoked and the residents of Nerja can once again go bargain hunting.
