A man who allegedly shot his partner six times on Saturday had a restraining order in place following complaints of ill-treatment made in December 2012 by the woman.
In December, the woman filed a complaint with the police about ill-treatment and the two days later made another complaint due to threats having been made against her. Police arrested the man and on December 12th a judge imposed a restraining order.
It is believed that the man encountered his partner at the junction of calle Cocherón de la Villa and Cangrejo in the Puente de Vallecas district of Madrid where he fired six shots before fleeing in a car.
The woman, a 36 year old North African national, was conscious when medics arrived on the scene but was seriously injured with gunshot wounds to the chest, back and buttocks. She was rushed to the Gregorio Marañón hospital where she immediately underwent emergency surgery.
Her condition is currently very serious but stable.
The alleged perpetrator, a 38 year old Spanish national, has no prior criminal record. The couple were apparently in the process of separating, according to relatives of the victim.
