Police have arrested the alleged perpetrator of a hit and run accident in Puerto Real (Cádiz) on Monday which claimed the life of a 77 year old man.
On Monday, a Guardia Civil patrol noticed something at the side of the A-4 and stopped to investigate, discovering that it was a wounded man. The victim was treated at the scene but died in the ambulance on the way to hospital.
At the scene police found parts of a car and a search began for the owner of the vehicle thought to have been involved in the incident.
Meanwhile, a man called the police in San Fernando to enquire if there was any report of a road traffic accident having occurred in the Jarana district of Puerto Real. Police traced the caller and found that the parts of the car found at the scene matched damage to the vehicle owned by the caller.
The man was also tested for alcohol and drugs, testing positive for both. He was then arrested and charged for the alleged crime of failing to render assistance.
