Seprona officers have been search the areas around several ponds between Mijas and Ojén after what they described as a ‘credible’ reported sighting of a two metre long reptile, thought from the description to be an alligator or crocodile.
A local resident reported seeing a large reptile with a flattened head and teeth along each side of its mouth crossing a lane and heading for water. The reptile was reported as being about two metres in length and, from the description, would most likely be a crocodile or alligator.
It could conceivably be one which has escaped from captivity or was released into the wild by its owners as, according to the Guardia Civil, such creatures have been brought into the country illegally and the area in question, the Majada Vieja, is eminently suitable for such reptiles to survive.
However, searches have failed to locate any such reptile or even footprints, signs of feeding or tell-tale signs of such a creature sliding into the waters.
