Residents in Yunquera have been expressing their outrage at cuts made at the local Health Centre, the Council having so far received over 1,000 complaints. The population of the municipality of Yunquera is around 3,000 people.
Cuts by the Health Service (SAS) has seen a 50% staff reduction from two doctors and two nurses to just one of each.
Residents feel that this is inadequate to cover a population of 3,000 people, especially when cases of flu saturate the service or when the only doctor and nurse have to leave to attend calls. Residents are not ruling out further protests and demonstrations.
However, the situation is seen as unlikely to improve as cuts are being implemented throughout the region.
