Several people have apparently been fined during the past few days for breaches of municipal ordinances, some relating to the keeping of animals and failure to clean up after their pets, others for depositing rubbish in containers outside the specified times. Regarding the former, there are many who will say, ‘not before time’.
The Councillor for Cleaning and Urban Ecology, José Miguel García, is requesting the cooperation of residents, urging them to abide by the regulations. The amount of dog poo on the streets of Nerja is a regular topic on leading travel forums, such as Tripadvisor.
The penalties for breach of the Municipal Ordinance on the Keeping of Animals range from €30 to €120 for minor offences to €121 to €600 for serious offences and from €601 upwards for ‘very serious offences’.
