Júzcar, population 240 people, has benefited greatly from being the first ‘Smurf Village’ in the world, with around 185,000 people from all over the world visiting the village since it was chosen in 2011 for the promotion pof the film ‘The Smurfs 3D’. And the village will remain blue until the residents decide otherwise.
Eight new businesses have started up in the village and a ninth is pending, so the decision to use the village for the launch of the second Smurfs movie, innovatively entitled ‘Smurfs 2’, in August should see the prosperity continue.
Houses, the Town Hall, the church and even the cemetery are painted blue. Many of the buildings will be getting a new lick of blue paint in the coming months as time and the weather has had its effect in the past year or so.
Promotion of the new Smurfs movie is expected to begin in June 2013.
