Endesa has announced that it will cut the power to municipal offices in Albox, Almeria, on Monday due to the non-payment of bills, stating that the company has tried to discuss the situation with the Council on a number of occasions but without success.
The new mayor of Albox, Rogelio Mena (PSOE), who took office on February 22nd, is reported as saying it was a choice between paying staff or paying for light, so he decided to pay the staff so that families in the municipality didn’t suffer.
The financial crisis, a 97% reduction in revenue from building licences and cuts in funding have severely affected the municipality.
According to Endesa, the Council owes for November onwards. Other suppliers are also apparently in the same boat.
