The hotel group NH Hoteles has presented an ERE (Employment Regulation) affecting 38 establishments in Spain, mostly in Madrid, and also plans to outsource some of its services.
NH Hoteles recently brought in a Chinese investor after losing €212 million in 2012, the new investor acquiring a 20% stake in the chain. NH expects to being negotiating the ERE on March 15th with a one month consultation period to allow for any lay-offs to begin in mid-April.
Its hotels in Spain contributed only 25% of the total turnover of the company, despite having 21,119 rooms out of a total of 60,000. NH employs about 19,000 people and has 400 hotels in 26 countries, including 176 in Spain with between 5,000 and 6,000 workers.
