At around 08:00, a passenger on a small boat called the authorities to tell them that they were drifting in the Strait of Gibraltar after their engine failed and Marine Rescue and Red Cross officers were sent to locate the vessel.
Involved in the rescue were the Maritime Rescue vessel ‘Salvamar Alkair’, the Red Cross Vessel ‘LS Hermes’ and a Helimer 211 helicopter.
The small boat was carrying thirty-two passengers, including six women and a baby, and was drifting. The passengers were taken to the port of Tarifa where they were given a medical examination.
