Council to urge Junta de Andalucia to implement sanitation projects

The Council has approved a motion asking the Junta de Andalucia to carry out works they announced would be carried out from proceeds of the water canon introduced under the 2010 Water Law. To date, the canon has raised €63 million, of which €400,000 has been contributed by nerjeños, yet not one single project has thus far been implemented.

One of the planned investments was in the water treatment plant in Nerja, but this is being funded by the Central Government. The Council, in collaboration with the municipal water company Aguas Narixa, has prepared a list of sanitation works not covered by the draft project for the sewage plant which it believes the Junta de Andalucia can carry out instead.

These include pumping stations for the Río Seco, Castillo Alto, Punto Limpio and the instituto El Chaparil, collectors for the pumping station in Maro and collectors for calles Trancos, Iglesia and Virgen del Carmen in urbanisation Almijara and the Barriada de Los Poetas.

The Council also suggests that if the Junta de Andalucia is unable to carry out the projects then they could authorise the municipalities to implement them on their behalf.

Sounds like a lot of major items not included in the sewage plant project, which would go some way to explaining why the contract price was half the original cost estimate and one-third of the generally accepted eventual ‘real’ cost. But as long as they build it, that’s all that is important.
