The municipality of Valle de Abdalajís in Málaga province, population around 2,800, now has a football pitch with artificial turf, a project costing €625,045.
The refurbishment of the existing pitch has taken several years to finish. The project also includes lighting towers and necessary items such as nets, goal posts and seating.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the president of the Provincial Council, Elias Bendodo, the mayor of Valle de Abdalajís, Víctor Castillo, the provincial deputy for Sports, Marina Bravo, and former Councillor Francisco Sierras.
The event was also used to honour the former mayor, Francisco Sierras, who resigned for health reasons, and local youth Jonathan Ruiz who died, after whom the stadium is named.
There are also plans for paddle tennis courts in the municipality, part of a provincial scheme to build courts in municipalities with populations under 25,000 and involving an investment of over one million euros between 2012 and 2014.
