Unicaja Banco closed 2012 with a loss of €577 million after tax due to write-downs of €1,204 million required under the Royal Decrees RDL 2/2012 and 18/2012.
Unicaja is one of only four savings banks which did not require intervention during the banking crisis, the others being Ibercaja, Kutxa and Caixa. Unicaja met all the necessary provisions of the Royal Decrees without the need to sell assets or strategic businesses and without affecting customers.
The bank has received no assistance, direct or indirect, and has not needed capital injection and is reported as having a ‘comfortable’ liquidity position.
