Cádiz has a new newspaper today, Wednesday, called The Independent and purporting to be a new medium of communication, created and run by journalists, which is free of political and business interests.
The move is unusual in this digital age where newspapers are cutting back on paper editions and increasing their online presence.
The Independent is run by a Limited Partnership with over half of the shares owned by the workers. It consists of thirty professional journalists, photographers, designers and economists and there are also three cartoonists – Caco Martin, Daniel Maine and David Pielfort – plus numerous collaborators.
The new paper is predominantly focused on provincial news, information and stories and online versions are being developed.
