An entertaining quarter-final first leg match between PSG and Barcelona ended in a 2-2 draw, giving the Catalans an edge for the second leg.
PSG had no intention of settling for a draw and, despite the usual Barcelona passing dominance, looked the most likely to score in the first half and missed several chances. But it was Barcelona who took the lead, a world class pass from Dani Alves finding Messi who slammed the ball into the back of the net.
Messi was unable to start the second half after suffering a hamstring injury and was replaced by Fabregas.
In the 79th minute, Zlatan Ibrahimovic equalised for PSG, although replays showed him to be offside at the time. Xavi converted a dubious penalty decision in the 89th minute and it looked like Barcelona would triumph, but it was not to be as just one minute later, Matuidi made it 2-2.
In the other match played on Tuesday, in-form Bayern Munich beat Juventus 2-0. Alaba put Bayern ahead after just one minute and Mueller added a second after the break to put the German side well and truly in the driving seat in this quarter-final.
