At the ordinary Council meeting held on Friday there were 16 items on the agenda for discussion and one of the resolutions agreed by the spokesmen of all parties was that motions having the support of all parties at the Advisory Committee stage of proceedings should be voted upon without further discussion or intervention.
As if to test the idea, the speaker then read out the motion which was voted upon without discussion or intervention. The idea behind the new measure is to allow more flexibility during the regular meetings.
Two of the sixteen items on the agenda for the day were subsequently approved in this manner, one from the PSOE and one from the PP.
The PSOE motion was an expression of opposition to gas and oil exploration off the Málaga coast. The PP motion approved without discussion was to once again request the Junta de Andalucia to begin drafting the project for the Heath Centre.
Another item approved unanimously, but this time after discussion, was a motion asking the Junta de Andalucia to include housing renovation in Nerja as part of the Emergency Plan for Employment.
Of course, an overall majority ensures that all government motions will be approved, with or without discussion.
David Bowell says:
It really doesn’t matter whether things are discussed or not. Nothing ever gets done and I shall still try to avoid the detritus whilst swimming in the sea.
