The Association of Employers at the Sierra Nevada ski resort has asked the Minister of Culture and Sport of the Junta de Andalucia, Luciano Alonso, to mediate with the public company operating the resort, Cetursa, so that the resort can stay permanently open until May 5th 2013.
Cetursa already plans to keep the resort open until May 5th, but only intermittently. From April 14th it is scheduled to be open for just three days each week.
Employers argue that the intermittent opening will have an adverse effect on business, with many unable to keep staff or maintain perishable goods. They argue that hotels in the area, including those operated by Cetursa themselves, will simply close after April 14th.
The employers also suspect that the experiment of partially closing the resort could be a pretext to justify earlier closing in future seasons.
