Following constant complaints from local residents, continuous damage to street furniture and problems with the amount of debris, Nerja Council has decreed an end to the ‘botellón’ – street drinking – in the Parque Verano Azul.
The ‘botellón has been occurring in Parque Verano Azul since 2006 when the Junta de Andalucia introduced a new law to regulate street drinking.
As a result of this decision, the PP government is intensifying its efforts to find alternative activities for young people. To this end, the Department of Youth is promoting various activities under the Nerja Crea+ 2013 such as the poster competition for the second Noche en Blanco and a poster competition for International Youth Day.
Whether or not the odd poster competition will prove an enticing enough alternative to late night drinking remains to be seen.
