Two goals in time added on in Germany and the fairytale comes to an end, Málaga losing 3-2 on the night and on aggregate.
Joaquin gave Málaga the lead in the 25th minute before Lewandowski equalised just before the break. Eliseu made it 1-2, although his goal was clearly offside, and with four minutes of extra time added on, Borussia needed a miracle, and two goals.
And they got that miracle, two goals in two minutes courtesy of Reus and Santana. Cruel luck for the Blue and Whites and their Champions League adventure is over.
Real Madrid progressed to the semi-finals but a spirited second half performance by Galatasaray saw the home side win the match 3-2.
Ronaldo put Real ahead after just 8 minutes and it looked like it would be a stroll in the park with a 3-0 first leg lead. But it wasn’t. A scorcher from Eboue, a clinical finish from Sneijder and a touch of class from Drogba put Galatasaray in front and there were a few jitters in the Madrid camp.
There were chances missed at both ends, two of them sitters, but it was Ronaldo scoring his second of the night right at the end of normal time who eased the nerves and made sure Real would progress to the semi-finals.
