The Council has approved two motions relating to the employment policies of the regional government, asking them to meet their responsibilities from previous years and to implement an employment policy specifically for the province of Málaga.
The Council states that the Junta de Andalucia owes municipal, district and provincial authorities for employment policies carried out in 2009, 2010 and 2011 and for which there was budgetary provision.
The motions were approved with only the votes of the PP, the government expressing regret that there was not unanimous support on this matter. One would not, of course, expect the Socialist members to vote in favour of anything critical of a Socialist government. Similarly, if the roles were reversed, one would not expect the PP to vote in favour of a motion criticising a PP government.
Also approved was a motion requesting the Junta de Andalucia to pay the grant to the Association of Municipalities of the Costa del Sol-Axarquía for the marking and cleaning of beaches during the 2012 season.
The motion also calls upon the Junta de Andalucia to reinstate the grants for beach services in the Axarquia, cancelled at the end of last year, as the lack of such services will have a negative impact on the tourist industry.
It is a sad fact of politics that the interests of the Party and its members far outweigh the interests of the people. How often have we seen money made readily available for the construction of new Town Halls, state of the art facilities in tiny municipalities etc while there are no funds for things such as a sewage plant in a major town or even for cleaning the beaches?
