Police have arrested Diego Aranda, an IU Councillor in Almogia, on suspicion of crimes against the public health after one hundred marijuana plants were found in one of the properties he owned in calle Marcelo San Esteban.
Police suspected the presence of marijuana plants in the apartment and visited the property in the company of the Councillor. Entering the premises they found around one hundred plants in different stages of growthspread through three rooms.
Special lighting and other measures were in operation to ensure the optimum conditions for growing the plants.
The Councillor’s brother was also arrested as police believed him to be the owner of the plants, but the Councillor admitted that they were in fact his and that he began growing them a few months ago for therapeutic purposes.
The Councillor stated that the drugs reduced joint pain and stress levels and he intends to start a public campaign to research the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes.
