The March rains have caused movement of earth on a stretch of the A-92 in Viznar,Granada, at km 250.9, causing damage to the road and serious damage to the retaining wall, built in 2010 at a cost of €329,222.
The latest repairs are going to cost €424,386 and the completion period has been set at three months. This will cause the closure of a one hundred metre section in the direction of Almeria and traffic will be diverted during this period.
The cracks in the road were discovered on Monday April 8th. The retaining wall, which in any event was built on insecure land, is badly damaged and if it deteriorates further then the whole section of road could collapse.
Despite the fact that the wall was only constructed in 2010, the Council believe it ‘did its job’ in preventing more serious damage. The Council acknowledges that the A-92 was constructed on land that was far from stable and they now have to suffer the consequences.
