Municipal employees in Santa Fe, Granada, had to suspend their planned protest march against proposed redundancies after the Council withdrew the ERE.
Under the ERE, 35 workers were due to be dismissed. Councils have to complete their annual budgets by March of the following year. After completing the procedures, the Council discovered a ‘surplus’ of €2 million and withdrew the ERE.
Or rather they found that the cumulative deficit was lower than expected, which in political terms is a ‘surplus’. For anyone else this would mean they were less bankrupt than they thought, but still bankrupt.
The Council employees also expressed concern about the minority government in the town following the departure of a socialist Coubcillor and the fact that 60% of municipal revenues are embargoed by the Central Government.
