The Department of Development of the Junta de Andalucia put forward a new proposal to settle the conflict between Málaga taxi drivers, who want a closed shop with only their members allowed to ferry passengers to and from the airport, and the rest of the provincial taxi drivers who want to continue to be allowed to pick up and drop off passengers who have pre-booked with them.
The proposal, to amend the current legislation to limit the number of provincial pick-ups outside the summer period, namely October to May, was soundly rejected by both sides.
A pre-booked taxi from one of the provincial municipalities costs, for example, €65. A taxi from outside the airport can cost as much as €100 for the same journey.
