The Hospital Universitario Virgen Macarena in Sevilla has closed part of the ICU in order to perform deep cleaning and disinfecting of an area affected by larvae.
Some patients are being transferred to the Intermediate Care area which has been well equipped to provide the same quality of service.
The cleansing of the affected area is expected to take approximately one week as they try to cover the entire life cycle of the larvae, although this could vary depending upon results. A review will be carried out next week to analyse the results.
Relatives of patients in the ICU warned the management earlier this month about the presence of worms on the ceiling, floor and walls as well as the presence of a dead rat, causing a specialist company to be called in to disinfect one of the rooms.
