Members of the CGT union and various social organisations have begun developing a social garden on a plot of land they ‘occupied’ on Friday in Pizarra, despite not having received the necessary authorisation from the Junta de Andalucia. They argue that now is the planting season, and waiting for the regional authority could mean they miss the opportunity to plant the crops.
The objective of the project is to provide food for the needy in the community. The plot of land had been fenced off for over 40 years by an individual, although it is public land, and was in a derelict state. Around thirty people occupied the land on Friday and applied for permission to cultivate it. However, the cogs of government work slowly, as we know.
The occupation force blocked the access road each night but although the Guardia Civil put in an appearance, they did nothing but identify some of the group involved.
