Anyone looking to buy a castle, look no further. There is a for sale sign on the XV century castle overlooking Bedmar, Jaén.
The owners, descendants of the Marquis of Bedmar, want €500,000 or will exchange it for other real estate. It was bought at auction in the 1970´s for 40,000 pesetas.
The Council have tried in vain to get the owners to donate the castle to the municipality and both the Council and the Junta de Andalucia hope that any new owners will at least maintain and preserve the castle which is listed as being of cultural interest.
The rainy season has damaged some of the structure of the castle and, as a consequence, is endangering the dwellings and church located beneath the fortress. So, ‘needs some attention’ as they would say.
