Police have arrested five people, all Spanish nationals and residents of Málaga, on suspicion of robbery after they were caught red-handed loading 100 kilos of stolen potatoes into a van at a farm in Vélez-Málaga.
The owner of the farm on the camino de la Rivera notified police that a robbery was taking place and the officers arrived in time to catch the alleged thieves red-handed as they were loading potatoes into their van.
The Council recently approved a motion supporting farmers in their request for an amendment to the Penal Code to allow for harsher sentences relating to thefts from farms and ranches.
