Pizarra Council has ordered the demolition of a house built on protected land and imposed a fine of €200,000 on the owners in a case dating back to 2004.
The case involves a house of around 300 square metres in La Vega, the land being undeveloped and classified as ‘special protection’. In addition to the house, the owner also built a swimming pool, a sports court and an area for housing animals.
The owner, Manuel Dominguez, has lived in the property with his family for the past thirteen years and claims discrimination as there are, according to him, many other dwellings built on similarly protected land but in those cases, no action has been taken.
Sr Dominguez did apparently admit that he received two notifications to stop construction in 2004 and 2008 but carried on anyway. Sr Dominguez has filed an appeal against the latest ruling.
