Ronda Council is looking to save half a million euros a year on electricity costs, and not, as has been the case in a few municipalities in recent years, by simply not paying their bills.
The Council commissioned a study into municipal lighting which was carried out by the company Consultoría Lumínica. The report estimates that the Council could save around €550,000 on its 6,500 points of light. In addition to a 69% reduction in outlay, there could be a 65.16% reduction in energy consumption.
Per capita consumption would be reduced from €22 to €6.67 per year and the number of contracts with Endesa, the electricity company, could be reduced from 155 to 111.
A project to renovate the lighting system, with a budget of €2,173,949, could soon be put out to tender.
Around 13% of the municipal lighting is currently not functioning due to cable thefts and 25% of the lighting is not of the energy saving type. The project envisages more LED lighting and energy savings of up to 80% on roads such as the avenida de Andalucia.
